Pediatric Ambulance
Pediatric transport is necessary anytime children need specialized urgent transportation because of their critical conditions. This often happens due to accidents, medical emergencies at home, or for transportation from an outlying hospital or a hospital for adults, and who need to go to a perfectly equipped pediatric hospital. Pediatric transportation equipment is also used even for transferring children from one ward to another inside the same hospital.
The management of pediatric patients in critical condition presents special clinical and epidemiological characteristics, which require specific training and skills. In fact, the data confirms that the outcome is worse when these skills are not available.
The presence of pediatric doctors and nurses specialized in intensive pediatric therapy improves the prognosis. Children have a 30% higher probability of being saved when they are treated in an intensive pediatric therapy situation where there is the proper equipment and a highly specialized staff.
The Ospedale Buzzi is one of eleven pediatric hospitals in Italy, and is the only one in Lombardy. Now, thanks to the support of the Fondazione Prossimo Mio, it is also furnished with a new ambulance for emergencies.
Because of its expertise, the intensive therapy ward of the Ospedale Buzzi treats every year, to-date, about 500 children coming from Emergency Rooms or hospitals for adults.
In Lombardy, a significant number of critical pediatric patients are unfortunately still treated in intensive care wards for adults. With the new emergency pavilion, ambulance, and an increased number of resuscitation beds, the Ospedale Buzzi will double its capacity to take in and adequately treat these children.
